Holly Ogilvie will officially launch this year’s Durrow Scarecrow Festival, on Sunday 24th July at 12:15pm, in the Scarecrow Village. Holly is a member of the Laois Kayak and Canoe club, which is based in Durrow, Co. Laois.

Earlier this month, Holly competed for Ireland at the World Canoe Freestyle Championships.

Having won her heat she progressed to the semi-final, and Holly is now ranked as the 8th junior female in the World, which is an amazing achievement.

Held every two years the event saw over 200 of the world’s best freestyle kayakers, from more than 25 countries come together at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham, England to compete.

Freestyle is a whitewater discipline where competitors use the power of the water to score points for tricks and flips on a set feature of a rapid. Points are awarded by judges for each different rotation during a timed choreographed routine.
