Foosball Tournament 2018

Now in it’s fourth year, the Annual Pub Foosball Tournament is an exciting contest that is held over three nights in the Scarecrow Village and is yet another fun part of the Durrow Scarecrow Festival! Pubs all across the town are using the transfer window to get as many good signings as possible, so if you’re a bit of a Messi, go to your local and negotiate with the barman or barlady for a place on the team!

The fixtures this year are as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 31st at 7.30pm: Decs Fawltys
  • Thursday, August 2nd at 7.30pm: Bobs Lennons
  • Saturday, August 4th at 7.30pm: FinalTuesday’s Winners v Thursday’s Winners.

The roll of honour is:

  • 2015: Lennons
  • 2016: Lennons
  • 2017: Bobs

Dunmore Country School Family Herb and Vegetable Discovery Trail

The Dunmore Country School Family Herb and Vegetable Discovery Trail promises to be a fantastic event for all the family. The Dunmore Country School scarecrows “Minty” and “Birdy” will be welcoming you during the Durrow Scarecrow Festival on Saturday 4th August and Sunday 5th August 10.30am-11.30am. You will discover the garden with Tanguy and taste a mint crème brûlée at the end of the tour. Booking essential, pay €5 at the Scarecrow Village before you come down to our garden.

Bank of Ireland to open over the August Bank Holiday Weekend

A big thank you to Bank of Ireland who will open the bank specifically for the Scarecrow Festival over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. They will be open from 12-4pm on the Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th and Bank Holiday Monday 6th August.

We are very thankful to them for doing this and it will be a great help to all the visitors who will be attending the festival. Again, hats off!

Take The Leafy Loop at the Durrow Scarecrow Festival

The Laois Walks Festival goes from strength to strength and one of their walks happens to coincide with the Durrow Scarecrow festival – The Durrow Leafy Loop Walk brings you through woodland, farmland and riverbanks with a delightfully rich abundance of flora and fauna.

The walk takes place on Tuesday 31st July, meeting at the Square Durrow at 7.30pm – this is a Grade A walk of 12 km and should take 3-4 hours.

Recycling Ambassadors at the Durrow Scarecrow Festival

The Recycling Ambassador Programme with Voice Ireland comes to the festival on Wednesday, August 1st from 12.30-1.30pm in The Library, Chapel St, Durrow.

Tickets are available at the Eventbrite Page, so go to it and register, places are going fast.

Want to know what goest in your bin?
Recycling Ambassadors will show you what you can recycle in the household bin in this free interactive workshop. The Recycling workshops are being offered in conjuction with Durrow Scarecrow Festival, Durrow Tidy Towns and Voice Ireland and is an initiative to help improve Ireland’s Recycling rates and reduce levels of contamination in household recycling bins. Don’t miss this oppertunity on how to get your recycling bin sorted.

Snap Happy at The Durrow Scarecrow Festival!

The Arts and Crafts Exhibition also incorporates the annual Photography Competition which is always a big event and attracts some of the best photographers around. The competition has a Junior and Senior category. Print size for both competitions go from standard size to maximum 12” x 10”. The entry fees are Senior €8 and Junior (U16) €5.

Entry Dates: Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st July from 3-6pm both days in Durrow Community Centre. Maximum of 3 photos per entry.

Always great music in The Scarecrow Village!

Scarecrows like nothing better after a hard days crow-scaring than the kick back and listen to some great music in the Scarecrow Village. We think they only like hillbilly music, what with all that straw and all … but we hear that they like all types of music. That’s why we have a varied selection of acts at the Scarecrow Festival to cater for everyone from traditional irish, pop, folk, classical to country. So why not take a break from it all and listen to some great music. 

We are delighted to have Bank of Ireland onboard as sponsors of our Scarecrow Village Music lineup this year, it’s always great entertainment. And not only that but the bank will be open on the Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th of the August Bank Holiday weekend as well – it’s great to have local business like this getting involved and showing great community spirit. Well done!

The 2018 All-Ireland Scarecrow Championship Awards Ceremony

The 2018 All-Ireland Scarecrow Championship Awards Ceremony The All-Ireland Scarecrow Championship Awards Ceremony will take place in the Scarecrow Village from 4.30-5pm on Sunday 5th August. This is the culmination of the festival and marks the unveiling of this year’s overall winner and the winners of the various other categories. The first prize is sponsored by St Canices Credit Union in Durrow – a big thank you to them, it really helps and is greatly appreciated.

We cant wait to see who wins the various categories and who the overall winner will be – this is a great reward for all the hard work, creativity and effort that goes into each and every one of the entries. We know what you do, and you do it so well, Well done to all!

The Overall Winner in 2017 was “The Greatest Show on Earth” produced by Conahy Vintage Group. A fantastic piece of work, can anyone topple them to take their place on the Roll of Honour?
